Why doesn't basic health insurance cover these costs?
Switzerland's mandatory basic health insurance (KVG) only covers treatments that are medically necessary – meaning there must be specific symptoms or a justified clinical suspicion.
A preventive whole-body MRI without symptoms is classified as a screening examination and therefore doesn't qualify for coverage. This is simply the current legal situation – regardless of how valuable early detection can be.
If you'd still like to take this step, you can book a whole-body MRI as a private, self-pay service. In a free initial consultation, we'll talk through what makes sense for your personal situation.
